"We wanted a simple but powerful image to demonstrate how lots of people performing one small act can help save the world. The snow globe was the perfect vehicle to do this across all mediums especially TV where Resin were able to turn our imagination into a scary reality." Said Sean Craig Murphy, Creative Director-FNUKY
Director Grant Lovering and the Resin visual effects team worked through a variety of approaches for how the concept could be realised, before settling on a combination of live action plates and CG elements. "We found the natural characteristics of the bulb contained so many subtle variations and imperfections we felt it was important to use these details to help with the realism. This also gave us real reflection and refraction details with the fingers that could be recomposited back into the final."
The base plates of the globes and the hand changing them over were shot in a studio rigged at Resin. The visual effects team then worked to squeeze the Sydney Harbour into the globe and recreate authentic snow globe style snow flakes. The greatest challenge came in developing a CG water simulation that both captured the sense of a threatening ocean but also had a motion characteristic that felt at home within a small glass dome.
The final composite consisted of several CG passes to provide the detailing required when working with glass and water. The live action was then an integral component used to reintroduce the natural imperfections in the globe and to bring back shadow and highlight detail on the glass.
