Resin helped bring together what was a technically challenging project that required some complex compositing. One of the hero shots of the commercial took footage of a train leaving Keswick station and was transformed into a storm filled outback environment. The opening shot was completely rebuilt from a 4:3 BetaCam SP transfer and several passenger shots all shot stationary had motion added to give the sense of the journey experienced on the train.
The shot of the Indian Pacific winding through the blue mountains was created from a single still and day was turned to night for the closing shot which was originally shot late afternoon and was graded to achieve the effect of the Ghan travelling through the outback under the moonlight.
The client and agency were thrilled with the end product and the commercial aired nationally throughout 2006 and continuing into 2007 with adaption for the next campaign.
